Events, Workshops, Shop Hops and Retreat Information

Our guild likes to have fun and share in group events.  Listed below is the information on our current events, workshops, shop hops and retreats.  Plan to join the fun!

Missouri Star Quilt Retreat  – Sandy Sanders is coordinating a guild retreat to Missouri Star Quilt in Hamilton, MO.  The retreat will be November 7 – 10, 2019.  In addition to free sewing and shopping time, there will be a program and possibly a trunk show by Jenny Doan.  The cost of the retreat is estimated to be $400/person.  There are 35 spots available and a sign-up sheet will be at the back table during guild meetings.

2019 Bow Tie Block Exchange – Nancy Kessler will coordinate a Bow Tie Block exchange  for any interested members.  We will be making bow tie blocks with the a covered corner – not the square in the middle.  Each participant will make 30 blocks each month from January to December, using white or white-on-white background fabric.  Your blocks will be exchanged for 30 blocks made by guild members.  At the end of the year you will have 360 blocks to turn into a quilt of your choice!  Nancy will have a sign-up sheet at the exchange table during guild meetings.

Make 1 /Take 1 Workshops – Beginning in February 2019 until June 2019 we will be offering a Make 1/Take 1 Workshop each month.  These will be hands-on workshops where you will learn to make a sewing or quilting item – making 1 to donate to the Quilt Show Boutique and 1 to take home.  The workshops are free, open to GLOC guild members, and will be held in Room 4 of the Grove Community Center on the second Tuesday of the month from 9 AM to 3 PM.  Sign-up sheets for the workshops will be available at the guild meetings.  Supply lists will be provided for each workshop and you will need to bring your lunch, machine, tools, fabric and supplies to make your items.

Workshop 1 on February 12 – Fabric Bins

fabric bins

Learn to make these simple but useful fabric bins.  The bin size depends on your choice of fabric dimensions.  Works well with fat quarters, layer cake pieces, or your scrap stash!
